This one-day workshop introduces you to the journey of the Arabic language and how it has transpired into a divine art form over the years. You’ll embark on a journey learning how the art of calligraphy was embraced by the Hijaz and claimed it’s love by the Moors, enlightening the soul of Al Andalus, how it became the crown of Abbasids and flowed effortlessly in the hands of Ibn-Muqla, how it enveloped the walls of Ottoman mosques and intoxicated the heart of Persia. Moreover, you’ll learn about the fascinating journey of Arabic Calligraphy through the centuries and the traditional practices and tools used by the master Calligraphers.
Post introduction offers a step-by-step practical calligraphy guide in to writing the Arabic letters in a traditional manner using ink and Qalam (reed pen). You’ll begin the session by learning the method of cutting and preparing the Qalam (reed pen), as well as preparing other traditional tools and materials.
In addition to this, you will learn how to hold the Qalam at the correct angle and how write in a variety of thicknesses by following the proportional system of measuring each letter by the dot (nukta).
All materials are provided throughout the course including handouts with helpful guidelines which you are free to take home with you.
This course is Suitable for beginners to intermediate levels.
Previous knowledge of Arabic Calligraphy is not necessary.
